WHERE TO STAY IN ubud

RICE PADDIES, HEALERS & KALE TONIC

Ubud is the "cultural heart" of Bali. It's famous for its verdent green rice paddies, lush ravinous landscape, Balinese arts and traditional crafts and more recently, "Eat, Pray, Love" with Julia Roberts which draws travellers seeking Balinese healers, yoga, "organic" food & natural spa treatments.

The centre of Ubud is hectic, but in the surrounding villages the pace is slower. There is lots to do and see with kids in and around Ubud. If you have little kids be aware that lots of divine boutique hotels, villas and guesthouses are built on the hilly landscape, i.e., steps, drops etc., which can be toddler hazards.

Ubud is located approximately 40 mins to one hour's drive north of the airport Ubud (depending on traffic).

Have you stayed somewhere unique, and extra special with kids in the Gili Islands? I'd love to hear from you.

There are so many things to do with kids in Ubud. With monkeys, great food, temples, dance and art classes - there's heaps on offer for families with kids.

The Stone House is certainly one of a kind - with two divine villas and a decadent suite, each with their own unique style and design nestled in lush gardens with a heavenly pool. The Stone House is perfect for a group of friends, a family reunion, a romantic escape, or a chilled family getaway.

Umajati Retreat is a gorgeous private little sanctuary with two antique Javanese houses which are nestled in luscious gardens and surrounded by rice paddies. We stayed at this blissful abode with our boys, aged four and six, who spent hours in the beautiful pool and roaming around in the gardens while we soaked up the gorgeous Balinese aesthetics, tranquil vibe, and beautiful surroundings.

The sheer choice of "seriously" fabulous places to stay in Ubud that encapsulate that "gorgeous" Balinese aesthetic I love is mind-blowing. There are simple, rustic and utterly charming eco-houses, gorgeous old-style Balinese guesthouses, antique Joglo houses from Java, and award-winning architecturally designed boutique hotels.  This post is a brief snapshot of a few places that are truly amazing style-wise, or that have that spec...
